I disagree. That's like saying black people are better athletes, or that Asian people are smarter than everyone.

Seriously, have you heard Lady Sovereign? How could you say that is better than American music? First of all, most British musicians are copying American music. Blues, jazz, rock 'n' roll, punk rock, and hip hop were all started in the U.S. There are so many talented musicians here that you have never heard.
There is in no way a lack of good musicians in the U.S. In fact there are too many good musicians. The music scene here is convoluted with so many artists, that it is hard for a new band to develop a following. Major labels (illegally) pay big radio networks to play their music so they can boost their sales.

Sorry, I got a little off topic. I've heard a lot of these British bands that are supposed to be "great," but none of them are really anything great. The Libertines, were ok, but they weren't as amazing as everyone said they were. They were a lot better than Babyshambles, however. I think Pete Doherty is extremely over rated. Speaking of over rated, aren't you forgetting that Coldplay is British? Come on seriously, what's so great about them? The Sex Pistols were ok, but they weren't nearly as good as The Dead Kennedys. Would the Beatles have been as great if The Byrds hadn't introduced them to LSD? No. British music hasn't been exciting since the Blur/Oasis feud in the mid 90s.
The only great new British act out right now is Gorillaz (but that can be attributed to the many Americans who contributed to the 2 CDs. In fact, almost all of the musicians were American).

I don't know if it's that British musicians are better, or that the British record companies are more willing to give a try to an artist that doesn't sound exactly like everybody else they're selling platinum - with diversity, you get a better variety, and artists the Americans wouldn't look twice at can get their stuff across.

Most of the British bands of the 60's got their influences from American Rhythm and Blues musicians. So, that would lead one to believe the answer is American.

i do not imagine you're giving American rock sufficient credit, or you basically have not sought out the sturdy stuff. If Pearl Jam is tops on your American rock record then you definately're basically no longer searching not straightforward sufficient.

And the crazy Icelanders own them all. Seriously, how the hell a small country of 300,000 people produces such f***ing awesome bands such as Sigur Ros, Mum, Amiina, and Bjork is beyond me.
