As I am going into the teaching profession, I can see that it depends on different factors. The students that are working hard and trying to get into a good university by taking the extra steps and doing honors and AP courses are not going to see this. And that goes for freshman too, those who know how valuable an education is, won't be influenced by the people involved in these types of activities. Ultimately it comes down to knowing who you are and where you want to end up. If you have a goal to reach, you will ultimately send what ever time you have trying to acheive it. Please note I am in my early twenties and have younger siblings and cousins in high school. I went to the second largest high shool in California, and am aware of all the pressures out there.

Seniors do get a lot of free time but it's time that they need. Their usually busy applying for college and getting ready for it. It may seem as if everyone is "doing" drugs and slacking off but it's only a small percentage. Those small percentage are most probably the people who grow up with no job, wishing they weren't so stupid in high school just to be cool.

I dont think so. I think its whether they want to waste their time turning to drugs and just relaxing. I dont know many druggies in my school, but the obviously ones i can tell. (They smell like they smoke and do alcohol and stuff. Those ones.) Right now, that would be One out of all my eight classes that actually smell like that. Other than that, not too many that i know of turn to drugs. And im in all the hard courses so that's why i think i dont have that much free time. It's whether they toke the bird courses that they wouldnt really need to make the free time.

High school requires no time and no effort. All class levels get too much free time.
