I was thinking about famous people who may even be other peoples idols but had idols themselves whom they never could compare themselves too.for example kurt cobain was/is a idol to many and so many people look up to him yet he had idols himself and he never thought he was good enough.anyone able to think of other famous people along the same lines and maybe a link or info about them.cheers

Good point.

One thing I've noticed is that the greater the person is the more they idolise other people. Perhaps this is the opposite of inadequate people trying to do others down.

Pele (for American's who don't know one of the greatest soccer players ever) constantly praises other players. Hendrix, like the greatest guiter player ever dude, absolutely idolised Clapton and was more than a little nice about very many other guitarists.

Issac Newton (he of gravity fame) said that he wasn't so brilliant - it was just that he followed on from other brilliant people.

It does seem that the greater people get the more modest they become.

Anybody with half a brain has no idols because there are none. . . who would idolize kurt cobain. . . sure he wrote some decent music but he was a screwed up junkie who killed himself!! What part of that would anybody want to idolize? He was also married to a complete skank and whore! Who wants that? Not me!

Don't look up to Kurt Cobain, he was a junkie loser who had no talent. Last I checked, heroin addicts aren't that cool, plus, the pussy shot himself. How lame is that. And don't tell me the pressure of fame was too much for him or he had a medical problem and couldn't deal with the ******* pain. He was a loser and a coward.

Robin Williams' idol is Jonathan Winters...for what that's worth.
Rob Zombie's idol is Alice Cooper.

I'm sure that celebs look up to other celebs, too. Marilyn Monroe considered Jean Harlow to be her proverbial "idol." Lots of alternative rock bands cite other bands as influences.
