How long is a piece of string?
Some people are more prone to addiction than others. Addiction can be partly heriditory. One person may drink regularly, but never become an alcoholic, others get hooked quickly.
People become alcoholics from different circumstances, e.g.
someone might start out drinking socially, and it gets out of control, until they cannot do without a drink.
For others, it may be the need to try and blot out their pain e.g. bereavement, divorce.
It only takes a long time for someone to admit they are an alcoholic. The problem with today's society is, that alcohol is so socially acceptable, and in many ways, its worse than drug taking, because people don't realise the dangers of drinking too much, and because it is legal to drink alcohol as opposed to drugs, people think its O.K. to drink heavily.

There is some scientific evidence that the "predisposition" to become alcoholic is an inherited trait. Meaning that if there are alcoholics in your family, you may have the tendency to become an alcoholic yourself. But it's not a hard and fast rule. A lot of alcoholics "make" themselves by teaching their bodies how not to say no to that next drink.
I fully believe that there are weekend alcoholics as well. If, as soon as you get home on a Friday night, you must start drinking, and you spend the whole weekend plastered, before sobering up for work again on Monday, you are a weekend alcoholic.
If you must have 4 or 6 or 12 beers every night before going to bed, "just to unwind", even if it doesn't lead to drunkenness, you are an alcoholic.
An alcoholic is a person who can not say no to that drink they are used to having. It needn't be cheap wine. It could be the most expensive champagne. As long as they MUST have it, then they are alcoholics.

When you try alcohol, like it and become dependent on it. Some drink for the feeling, some for the fun, and some due to personal problems, those are usually the ones that become dependent on it and become alcoholics.

NOT LONG, Just find yourself drinking all times of the day whenever one has the chance, morning, noon, night that is all they want to do and find ways of getting that drink. And If they try to stop it becomes hard. BUT A REAL ALCOHOLIC, STAYS IN DENYAL. when every one is around them, friends, family strangers see that they have a problem it is CLEAR as day, But the drinker continues to deny having this issue, they may say "I can quit when ever I want to" This is your alcoholic.

I think it depends on the person and situation.
Plus, it's hard to designate a real time line for that because some people may have started off drinking casually and slowly over time became addicted. Where others may have taken to drinking fairly quickly. You can't call someone an alcoholic simply because they drink. It depends on the frequency and that doesn't happen overnight.

There is no distinguished amount of time....drinking everyday and in large amounts will make it harder to quit in the future.. It will ultimately take years of drinking for one to be considered an alcoholic.
Alcoholism is the consumption of, or preoccupation with, alcoholic beverages to the extent that this behavior interferes with the drinker's normal personal, family, social, or work life, and may lead to physical or mental harm. The resulting chronic use can result in many psychological and physiological disorders. Alcoholism is one of the world's most costly drug use problems; with the exception of nicotine addiction, alcoholism is more costly to most countries than all other drug use problems combined.
if you feel like you absolutly cannot go without a drink, or funtion normally, especially in social situations with out a drink, thats when its time to start thinking about alcoholic behavior

It is certain that alcoholism is genetic. How you behave around it is dependent upon the severity of your disease and other social factors. Alcohol use creates depression, so fighting sadness with alcohol is counterproductive

Just start drinking alcohol like a fish day in and day out and you will definitely reach your destiny. One may become alcoholic overnight or dead which ever one chosen and to me that is fast.

All it take is a couple of drinks if you have the gene that predisposes people to alcoholism.
A good way to tell is if you have alcoholics in your family.
