If you surf the Net, temp folder is getting larger, thus taking up more space.

As you download stuff from the net, it goes into temporary files. That would account for the usage of disk space. You can delete these files, and you should. Delete the "cookies" also. Do this in "Control Panel", "Internet Options". You should remove any programs or files that you are not using. Then run a "defrag" if you can, it requires a certain amount of free disk space to work properly. You could also consider a new hard drive. 33GB is awfully small! You should have a 160GB at least! I think the smallest one you can get now is 80GB. When you change your hard drive you will have to get a new copy of Win XP. Increase the memory if you have to. Use at least 512Mb or more. Otherwise Win XP will dog it.

There are a lot of activity that happens when the computer is running. It will write data to temporary files. If you surf the net all the caching files goes into your hard disk.

First think to do is remove unwanted files and make some space.

I suggest downloading Microsoft Windows Defender, it's free and works really well.. It sounds like you either have a virus or some sort of malware installed. Also, try disabling System Restore.

It is normal. Your operating system it self is creating some temp files when you surf or use any file.

Better delete some files. and leave some 1 GB space for your system to use it.

I sure your system is performing slow. Do clean up temp file regulerly.

the hard drive has "bad sectors" that keeps spreading. you cant stop it. your hard disk might last for about six months to a year. it can crash anytime. take a back up of your data.
