If You Donated Money, what Charity would you pick and Why?

I'm thinking of donating money to a charity. But i'm just afraid that they might use the money for other purposes. What charity would you pick or recommend?

I recommend donating to your local food bank. Little or none of the donated money (they take canned goods, etc.) is used for anything else. I see so much hunger in the job that I do and it is really tough for kids to be successful on any front when they haven't had enough to eat. I will never forget working with a teenager who vomited every a.m. and all through the day. Since he was male, I wasn't concerned about pregnancy. I started asking all the usual questions and when I asked what he had eaten today, he said, "Venison." I asked what else (this was late afternoon). "Nothing." The family couldn't even afford milk or bread or cereal. Hunger is a real issue and it destroys the body and the mind. Please investigate your local food bank or soup kitchen for your money. Thanks for letting me tell you why.

I picked a couple of charities. (I agree with you about how the money is used, by the way).

1. Habitat for Humanity. The need is great, especially in the Gulf. I don't send a lot, but I know it goes to where the need is greatest.

2. A local hospice in my county. My mom used hospice the last few months of her life. They were wonderful. We have been sending money over there whenever we can.

3. A local battered woman's shelter in my county. I know the money goes to women who need it.

I give to other charities as well, but I think these are good examples.

The United Way, because they don't just help one demographic. They help anyone who needs it. That is true charity, and a very noble charity. They even build houses for people who normally couldn't afford them otherwise. They help people with low income get the medication they need, and they help people get the medical attention they may need. They also work closely with many other charitous organizations, forming a very helpful network. They are the kings of charity as far as I am concerned, and deserve our recognition and support, either it be financially or just by volunteering with them.

i do donate money to a lot of native American funds,why,because charity starts at home.if you are Leary of a charity group have them checked out by asking for a copy of their yearly expenditure,showing where and how the money was spent.

SPCA or Dog shelters/rescues.
I feel sorry for all the unwanted animals, and they really do use the money donated to feed, vet check, spay and neuter the animals. At least you know you really saved a life.

I would recommend donaiting it to some charity that focuses on research on AID's and HIV, because it looks like they may just make a breakthrough quite soon. Your money could seriously help them alot.

Your local no-kill animal shelter. Some shelters will keep an animal for only 3 days and then put them to death if no one claims them or adopts them. That includes some SPCAs. No-kill shelters on the other hand, keep them until they find someone who will love the animal. I do in fact donate to my local no-kill animal shelter.

AIDS research because it is an epidemic in the world and many babies and children as well as adults succumb to this horrible disease. It is not just for gay men, it affects every group in the world!
