George Bush is not an effective president because he's only a president for his own party. He really doesn't seem to care about representing all Americans. If he did, he wouldn't offer such divisive solutions to our problems. He seems to like to scapegoat people (illegal aliens, Democrats, gays, etc.) to divide America even farther.

When I think about travelling overseas like I used to, I can't even conceive of it due to our extreme unpopularity in Europe and elsewhere.

I really wish we could elect a moderate (Democrat or Republican, it really doesn't matter) who would not play one group of Americans against another, who would compromise when his or her policies are not going well, and who would have a sense of humility.

That to me is Bush's biggest failure - his hubris. Even when he finally acknowledged that the CIA had secret prisons in other countries, he never really apologized or admitted that he was wrong.

The other thing I dislike about him is his willingness to scrap constitutional rights and guarantees in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans don't realize that once you've lost your rights to privacy, etc., it will be mighty difficult to get them back.

I agree with some things while disagreeing with others.

I can appreciate him because I think he's trying to do a good job, but gets put in bad situations at times. Even though I don't like everything he has done, I still can respect him as a president for sticking to his beliefs and looking forward instead of back.

No, I do NOT like him - I despise him. He has broken at least 30 laws during his presidency. He is a terrible role model for the United States (or the World).

He is a good mountain bike rider.
He generously offered to pay for one of his first girlfriends abortions.
His daddy got him out of his first few DWI's.
His brother showed him how to make money from bankrupting oil companies.
He told the Saudis that God told him to attack Iraq and he is doing God's work.
He is not responsible for or to the vistims of hurricane Katrina (and it ruined a really good end of the month vacation.)
He is not responsible for all the civilian deaths in IRAq even though he spent weeks before his invasion papering the country with fliers saying it would not happen.
He is responsible for giving one company 3 years of no-bid military contracts and billions of dollars in profits. So what if his family and the vice president's still have interest in the company.
He has no responsibility towards military trainees hurt prior to being sworn in. And he reduces benefits to most of the veterans while okaying invasion of our schools in search of more patriots to go dismember or be dismembered in various places around the globe.
He has trashed our right to free speech.
He has governend from a paltform of fear, divided the nation along party lines, and had the IRS and the FBI investigate preachers who may have told their flocks they did not support him.
He has leaked out the name of a government agent working under cover through his aides.
He doesn't take responsibility for any of his aides gaffes and is disloyal to both the troops and their families when it comes to finacial benefits or accepting responsibility for the Iraq prison atrocities.
He broke our UN agreements, both when he attacked Iraq and when he incarcinated soldiers from Afiganistan in a makeshift prison in Cuba. Then compounded that mistake by holding others in prisons all around the world with no right to counsel, no right to appeal, no right to be human.
He had our civil rights taken away by having the Congress, who is also horrible, declare us in a state of was and used the Presidential claim to War Powers to tap whomever's phone calls he felt like tapping, do illegal searches, and basically trounce all of out guaranteed rights to privacy and due procces.

Even his elections were questionable.
He was a lousy govenor of TX and doubled the amount of executions that took place before or after he left office. he wreak havoc on the educational system, never tried to see what affect his testings had on the quality of education and then forced it on all of the states of the union with no funding.
He is a pitiful human, a horrible leader, with lots of connections and a way of paying off those who help him, taking bribes from those with money, and blowing off everybody else.
With every new mess he lands in, he ruins America self image and ideals and is most happy when he has us at each others throats.
He is like this greedy little boy walking through the candy shop licking it all, saying "ha, ha, ha God will forgive me and it all mine!".

I think he's a good man and he has taken the office at a very problematic time in history. Somebody has to clean up the mess after the Clinton party years.
