It occurs to me that picking apart scripture for the sake of sound-bytes is perhaps contradictory to the intended purpose of the Bible.

One might note that Old Testament laws are neither weighed nor ordered from most grievous of sins to slightest of misdemeanors. Given this, it should be pointed out that the consumption of pork and shrimp also constitute damnable sin -- to say nothing of cheeseburgers! If one cannot confirm that one sin is worse than another, then it is safe to conclude that homosexuality is no worse than eating bacon.

Also of note is the concept of renunciation of the Talmudic laws. These laws, or 'commandments' (of which there are 613, including the big 10) are the backbone of the Old Testament. Modern Christianity places emphasis exclusively on the 10 laws ('commandments') presented to Moses on Mount Sinai, and by and large disregards the other 603. Case in point of this is the fact that consumption of cheeseburgers and bacon is not deemed "damnable" to the modern Christian, while murder is.

The policy of choosing those laws that best fit contemporary moral sentiment is, at the least, contradictory to the core nature of the faith. At worst, it is a de-facto witchhunt; when one is free to define the law in any way he pleases, the identification of criminals ('sinners' for the sake of this particular example) becomes arbitrary. i.e: The Old Testament also requires that all male children be circumcized, but we do not see televangelists warning the 'uncut' to repent, lest they burn for eternity.

It is not my place, nor my intention, to dictate the morality of any other. However, I do not feel that one can pick and choose the parts of a so-called Holy script as one pleases and still rightfully call themselves an obedient follower of that script.

Now, I am no exprert in sociology but since 57A.D. we have radically changed how we think about our planet and those around us. In 57A.D. there was no voting, there was no democracy, there was no equal rights, there was no standard education... I mean you are taking your morality and concept of "right" based on a text from a time when having slaves to do your work was commonplace and if someone stole your bread, it was okay to cut off their hand. Homosexuality did not cause HIV/AIDS. It's a disease, not an avenging angel sent by God, and preys upon humans of all ages, genders, lifestyles, and walks of life.
