let x be your firsth 3 digits and y be your last four digits.

((x*80+1)*250 +2y-250)/2 =
= x*40*250+y=10000x+y

this is the math behind your trick. it will always work for 7-digit numbers. good one.

It works because you are essentially adding the first three digits to the ten-thousands place in the number. The +1 is just a diversion because the -250 cancels this out. You have to add the last four digits twice because you're going to divide by two eventually. It helps if you know that 80*250 =20,000. Divide that by two and you get the number in the ten-thousands place.

i have considered that one before some circumstances yet none ever truly so wonderful because the Magic Gopher. the answer image alterations continuously with the intention to fool the reader into believing his or her ideas has been tricked someway. Mathematically, no be counted which 2 unmarried digits one supplies up and then attracts from the unique 2-digit determination, the answer will continuously be particular to a particular few numbers. with the help of giving an analogous image for each of those numbers it type of feels the gopher is in a position to "examine your ideas" even as, in reality, all the laptop desires to do is supply an analogous image for each attainable proper answer between a million & ninety 9. a further rationalization might want to be ineffective as I suck mathematically. *Hangs head in shame and backs away* EDIT - *seems at Juggling Frog's answer* Yeah, yeah, see? Golly. Multiples of 9. precisely. i replaced into basically gonna say that. humorous, heh? basically beat me to the punch. Yeah. Srsly. *places fingers in wallet and grins uncomfortably*
