What was the difference between Cormwallis' surrender and Robert E. Lee's surrender at the conclusion of the Civil War?

Cornwallis' surrender was just a surrender to the battle. When Robert E. Lee surrendered, it meant the whole Southern Army surrendered too, thus ending the Civil War

Cornwallis surrendered to the rebels in the Revolutionary War.
Lee was a rebel who surrendered in the Civil War.
