Well, living in the US, if the relationship between America and it's neighbors were the same, if say drug lords in Canada or Mexico were to cross the border and kidnap US citizens - and then start lobbing rockets across the border, I would hope my government (no matter who was president) would do the exact same thing!
Sure, Lebanese civilians were caught in the crossfire. Isreal went to great lengths to minimize any civilian casualties. The blame belongs to the Hezbollah militants who were using civilian neighborhoods as a human shield while they launched hundreds of rockets into Isreali cities. What else was Isreal to do - wait for UN peacekeepers to stop the terrorists - while their cities were under constant threat of attack?
Which is more evil - trying to remove the enemy who struck first (at least in this case), or using others who may be unwilling to support your cause as a shield?

He did what he had to do, if he didn't do nothing he'd be out of office by now, The USA cross the world looking for the person responsible for the attack to the twin towers in 2001, started a war that is still going strong, and started a second war in Iraq, Why Israel had to react any different

He shouldn't have bowed to international pressure. He should've kept on until Hezbollah was destroyed. Now, they're just rearming and waiting for the next offensive.
