What springs to mind when you think of Yorkshire and the people that live there? Just interested as I recently met some people that said 'you're not as I expected a Yorkshire woman to be'.

Also, where are you from?

I'm a Yorkshireman, but I lost my accent long ago. I get very annoyed at people who do a bad imitation of a Yorkshire accent as soon as they know where I am from. From this I conclude that their Yorkshire steriotype is some sort of gormless country yokel. (There, I used a Yorkshire word. But as a Yorkshire lass you will understand. I know that because Yorkshire lasses are like that --- understanding.)

I'm a Yorkshire lass too, I think were supposed to have whippets, wear flat caps, munch on Yorkshire puddings and say eh up lad/lass to everyone we meet, I know were very friendly and love a good laugh, take people into our hearts and are proud of were we come from.

What a bizarre question. When I think of Yorkshire I think of the fun I had when I went there climbing & abseiling with people who appeared to be exactly the same as me but with a different accent. How do you perceive Mancunians?

Lived there as well... bloody windy all the time, but brilliant scenery and people. Pity we southerners went up there and spoiled it by nicking all their houses and preventing their own young affording them!

Places I lived were:

Bedale (call it windy ridge... on a hill...brrrr)

Richmond... oh I loved this place, it has the smallest and oldest theatre in England, yet so active and when you sit in the boxes, you can actually shake hands with the actors.

Back in 1990 they noticed my young son in our box at the side of the stage, in his smart suit, and the lead actor spoke to him... and discovered from him, it was his seventh birthday treat and first ever visit to a theatre, so they all sang happy birthday to him... nice ay?

See... northerners are friendly folk after all:-)

I'm a Northamptonian... nearly forgot to say that bit:-)

By gum.....

......but to be serious, Yorkshire folk are as diverse as most other people.

As an "incomer (a Dabber from Nantwich in Cheshire)" I find my Yorkshire neighbours to be friendly, generous and helpful.

You all own a whippet,, the men wear flat caps and say " ecky thump" the only work is coal mining, I am sure you are not really like that but that is what springs to mind in a comical sort of way.

They all stand on Ilkely Moor on a windy day without a hat on and sing that well known song...
