I agree with A.P with the old green day, but also AFI...try their older stuff and new stuff, Funeral For a Friend, Bullet for my Valentine, Something Corporate, On The Last Day, Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, The Black Maria, Silverstein, Bayside, Orgy, No Doubt (not the gwen stefani solo album, NO DOUBT), Smile Empty Soul, Aiden, Across Five Aprils, Juliana Theory....for indie bands: The Academy is..., Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service.....Jack's Mannequin is good, and 30 seconds to mars, also Cobra Starship.

Uhm, I don't count punk music as real music. But, for an indie band Rock n Roll Soldiers are the best around.

listen to The Pixies...and listen to them alot...you will like them...then you will love them...then you'll think they suck for like a day...but then you will love them again. Once you like The Pixies, listen to Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead...not exactly what you are looking for...but right on the edge. If you like punk rock and you don't already listen to The Clash and The Sex Pistols then you probably should start. Because Switchfoot sucks
