Well, you didn't tell us where you are detecting them, so, it's a little harder to help you.. If they are secure networks, then you have to have permission from the owner of the network, otherwise, it is tantamount to stealing to hack into the network..
If it's located in a motel/hotel, and you are renting a room there, the desk clerk should be able to tell you the code for entry. There are some cities that provide free wireless in certain districts, and Rome, GA is one of them.

You cant. There is a network key because the people who are connected wirelessly dont want people hacking on to their system to use the internet. They are the only ones that know the key.
If you want to get on the internet wirelessly - either A buy a router and connect that to a desktop computer and then connect to that from your laptop or B walk around your house and try to find another signal from a wireless network that doesnt require a key.

the point of the network key is security, so people like you can't gain access to their wireless signal. Only the person who set up that wireless access point has the network key - though they can be hacked

go to conection wizard and re scan for networks. Even if you do not have a key you should be able to detect them.
