The Army will still take you, you old codger.
The Peace Corps takes people as young as 18, but since 95% of the successful applicants have a college degree and the other 5% have an ENORMOUS skill set, there are very few 18-year olds in the Peace Corps.
The armed sevices take you from 18 - 42. (It was 18 - 35 until a few months ago. Iraq has diminished the supply of willing recruits.) They will train you; you don't need a skill set, like you do fo the Peace Corps. It is easier to get in, too.
The Peace Corps has no upper age limit. Many very sucessful volunteers are over 65; they have a wealth of experience and don't let small things bother them.

I don't know about the military, but the Peace Corps has no upper age limit. They have a lower age limit of 18, but the oldest volunteer was in his 80s when he began service.
One restriction they do have is dealing with medical restrictions; you have to pass a medical exam to join. There are volunteers with diabetes and high blood pressure, asthma, etc; that are able to join because those are chronic and controllable problems.
Peace Corps was one of the best choices I ever made; I greatly enjoyed my time and felt like I was making a big difference in my village. It would be worth applying to, especially if you have a language ability or an ability in other needed skills -- there are a lot!
Good luck!

Maybe you can try Wildlife Conservation.
A great cause would be the "Buffalo Field Campaign".
It's very pro-active and there is minimal risk as far as stepping on a landmine or being shipped off to Iraq.
They help educate the public about the last remaining wild bison herd in Yellowstone.
They also physically protect the bison through Patrols and documentation of herd disruption.

ask your self this: What would Jesus do if he became in the international in the present day? What flag would salute? Which usa or nationwide crew would he choose? would he be a Democrat or a Republican? Who would he vote for? What authorities would he help? at the same time as the Jews were about to snatch him and make him king, Jesus withdrew into the mountains. ( John 6:15) Why? because he reported @ John 18:36 that " My kingdom isn't any component of this international." and in view that God isn't partial his son does no longer choose one nationwide crew over the different. Acts 10: 34, 35
