I'm 13 and currently seeing a phsycologist for my anxiety and self esteem problems. Lately(since the start of school) I've been getting so anxious. Like, I was worried about not finishing a summer packet and worried about having mean teachers. I totally freaked and started crying. Then, today, I had cheerleading and I thought it was an hour later than it really was, so my ride came, but I wasn't ready at all! I then started crying too. I also worry a ton! Like, during the night, I'll think of a million things for the first day of school, like, "Ooh, I need this, and this, and this", etc. Well, I'm just so tired of it. I was wondering, are there anxiety pills? I want to stop worrying about dumb stuff like school and cheerleading!

I would be cautious about taking psychiatric medication at thirteen. Most of these medications have been tested only on people who are much older than you. There is very little information available about the effects of these on thirteen year olds. In general, these medications are not recommended for people under the age of sixteen.

As an early teen, it is absolutely normal for you to feel anxious and have low self-esteem. However, if these symptoms are preventing you from functioning, try to find a good psychiatrist. If this psychiatrist thinks that it is a good idea for you to take these medications, insist that she clearly explains both the benefits and the possible side-effects that you could encounter. If you decide on a drug, make sure that you follow your doctors instructions entirely. Some of these medications can be very dangerous if taken improperly.

None of this is meant to scare you away from taking psychiatric medication if that is what you really need. I take medication, and it really makes a big difference in my life. It is just important to be cautious and to know all the facts.

Good luck!

Hi, I am 27 years old and I've had anxiety issues since I was about your age. While there are pills out there, I wouldn't recommend them for someone your age. anxiety pills in particular have a lot of side effects that a 13 year old shouldn't have deal with....they can cause fatigue, lethargy, weight gain, stomach problems, sometimes they actually increase anxiety at first. I would recommend that for now you see a child psychologist who can teach some techniques to deal with your anxiety, and help you figure out the root causes of it so that you can nip it in the butt before it turns into a life long problem.
good luck :) i know it's hard, but just stay strong.

There are pills for anxiety. I would talk to your phsycologist to see about gettin u some but I would ask for a kind that you can take as needed. To fully rely on a drug is scary for me. I have an anxiety/panic disorder but I can't take a drug everyday b/c it depresses me to feel like I have to take a pill to be me so I just take one whenever I feel depressed or anxious. But I would definately look into b/c u don't want this interfering with your school. Good luck!

I totally understand how you feel. I have suffered from anxiety and still do. I will say that I have learned how to deal with it better. I took Paxil. It worked wonders for me. There are many other medications to treat anxiety. You shouldn't have to live like that when there is something that can help you function better. I know so many people are against meds, but if you have tried everything else and still suffer from anxiety it might be time to try meds. Talk to you psychologist about it. People that dont' suffer from anxiety have a hard time understanding how it feels. Good luck and I hope it gets better for you.

Of course there are Meds for this , but you should see a physician before you do anything and make sure anxiety is what you have . Don't worry things are going to happen whether you worry or not . Get yourself some literature on the subject , it sometimes can be dealt with thru a good book. Good luck I feel for you.

Someone as young as you doesnt need pills. You are doing the right thing by going to see a psychologist. Have you told him/her about this?? If not you need too. Try writing down on a notepad every night what you need to do the next day. That will take away some of your stress. Good luck to you.

Yes, there are medications for anxiety. Talk to your doctor to see whether he thinks one might be appropriate for you.

Do NOT take anything from the benzodiazepine family such as Valium, Xanax, Klonopin and many others. These drugs are addictive and you'd get very sick trying to get off them.

Buspar is one anti-anxiety drug I've heard of that isn't a benzo.

Good luck.

Before you try pills, try burning off anxiety with exercise. A brisk walk or any moderate exercise is pr oven to help with stress and anxiety. I had anxiety for years until I made myself walk daily. It`s working. Helps me clear my mind of superficial stuff. I also would try deep breathing. This will lower your blood pressure and pulse just enough to take the edge off an anxiety attack. Hope this works for ya. Good luck.

i think what you are having is called anxiety attacks .. im not sure .. but what i rememebr about it .. sometimes it is a defense mechanism, like you cry so people will feel sorry for you and treat you softly, and if you do a mistake you want to avoid punishment, so you start crying .. it doesn't mean you are a bad person .. it all happens subconciously, but you need to toughen up, and start by not giving a damn , you are still 13 you'll make it
