Not much, but from Wikipedia:

"A street is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about. A street can be as simple as a level patch of dirt, but is more often paved with a hard, durable surface such as cobblestone or brick. Portions may also be smoothed with asphalt, embedded with rails, or otherwise prepared to accommodate non-pedestrian traffic."

"Avenue: It is also a common part of street names, often for roads with lines of trees on either side, but far from always so."

In older days, avenues tended to be wider, more pleasant roads, sometimes even divided (memory, sweet memory). The distinction is less rigorous today.

The only difference is the spelling. In some towns, streets run one direction and avenues run the perpendicular direction but for the majority of villages. towns, and cities the labels are just that...labels along with "road, drive, lane etc.

An avenue is defined as a formally designed or planted approach or road, typically wider than a street. A street is a paved or unpaved road with buildings on either side.
