Mad scientist is right, but also some comapnies will continue to make an older version of a bike that used to be classified as supersport bike, but a new machine has displaced it to sportbike. examples of this would be the yamaha 2006 R6S, the kawasaki ZZR600, and the CBR600F4i. These used to be top of the line supersport race bikes in earlier years, but since a lot of people on the street don't need top of the line, and they still have the manufacturing process down for these bikes , they continue to make them and sell them for a good price as sportbikes. they may change some things like suspension and in the case of the F4i givng it a banana seat, to make it more streetable, but it is basically the same as the older supersport bikes for the most part, and you can get them relatively cheap. This is also great for guys like me who own older bikes because it means there are a lot more parts that fit my bike out there :-D

Supersport comes from a racing class which allows certain limited modifications to an otherwise stock bike. In your context its just another name for sportbike. They probably used it as that bike may have been a platform for supersport racing.

A supersport bike is one that's virtually identical to a full-on track racer with just enough changes to make it street legal. Regular sport bikes may make a few changes for the sake of practicality -for example, the riding stance may be more comfortable, or the engine tuned so you don't have to rev it to 12,000 RPM to make power.

Super bikes are usually classified as race ready and at least 1000cc bikes.
