What is so great about getting body piercing?

I'm curious why younger people think it's so great to get body peircing. I just don't understand it.

well i want one on my nose and i'm a teen. i guesss we/i think it just looks cool. i've even just out some fake ones on and they feel cool too. not feel cool they just feel nicce just resting there. no joke, and yeah they just look nice to us. maybe when the youger people get older they'll detest it also, but for now we think it looks nice. maybe even proper

-- oh yeah i do know a lot of poeple that DO think that peircings are gay and freaking pointless and they seriously just hate it with a passion, i don't understand why, but they do.

I was eleven when i peirced my nose. I know that sounds really bad, but i was just hanging out with the wrong crowd. I think 14 is a good age to start getting light peircings. An eye braw peircing is a bit of a big step, but common look at what a lot of other kids do & WITHOUT their parents promision they find ways. I know i did. I got way more mature & when i was 14 i asked my parents kindly if i could get my stomach peirced. They agreed on it & i was suprised. Ever since i havn gotten any more peircings except the ones in my ears. I think kids will rebel if you say no & if you say yes they'll be happy, but they'll lighten up on how much they want because they don't feel that need to prove they are right. Eye braw peircings can look really good on somepeople to. My friend has one & it looks stunning. Some peircings have meanings in different cultures as well as tatoos. A nose peircing in India means beautiful. & ear peircings on a boy don't look to bad.

Ok for all of you calling body piercing and tattoo's a trend, both have been around for hundreds of years. Thats a long time for a trend, don't you think? I'm not looking for points on this answer but I'll tell you something. I have 20 piercings and 9 tattoos and its by no means because I want to be fashionable or because I hate myself. I get piercings and tattoo's because I think that simply being able to modify your body is amazing. Do you color your hair? wear contacts? go tanning? Thats modifying your body, although it is easier than having a needle pushed through your flesh, its the same thing. Piercings and tattoo's are art. I don't care if 5 million little "emo" or "goth" kids have them. I do it because I LIKE it.

First of all not all "younger" people think it's great. Infact I know rather a lot of people my age who hate it.

I have ear piercings (some more "unusual" ones than lobes) and want my nose piercing and that's it. People like them for different reasons. Some are just following the latest thing, some people like the look of them and for some people it's some sort of spiritual thing. Plus, unlike tattoos they are mostly semi-permanent (even stretched piercings will shrink) and so you can get rid of them when you don't like them anymore with minimal or no scarring in most places.

Young people are like women. They will follow anything to stay "in style" and this is in style. Tattoo's are too. Later when their tattoo's look faded and ugly and when their kids see the piercings, they will be laughed at but for now, it's cool to them.

i only have two percings, one on my left ear and one on my right ear. I don't do body piercings because they hurt like hell and I don't want a hole in my body caused by piercings

Most older folks think that it is pretty stupid. I don't mind ears, and I even like the belly button. But, lips, cheeks and tongues are pretty stupid.

on certain people in certain places on the body, they can look real nice, but not when they're everwhere.
