According to an interview I read years ago, the accounts described in the book are fairly accurate. This guy, I think he specialized in driving evil spirits out of places or something like that (he wasn't a priest, though), said that there was a very dangerous presence in that house, and he warned the owner (George Lutz) of the danger. But Lutz was a former Marine, a "tough guy" type, and wasn't concerned. The guy interviewed did complain that when they made the movie, there were some exaggerations and "Hollywood" embellishments in it, and he thinks that may have somewhat discredited the incident.
Personally, I believe that the house did have some very violent supernatural things going on in it, but I don't think it was the former occupant's spirit, as everyone thinks. When you die, you either go to Heaven or Hell - you don't go around haunting houses. Satan can take the form of anything, and I believe that's what happened there.

Well, from watching a documentary about that house in Amityville, there was this Italian-American family that lived their in the early 70's. The parents had 4 kids: the eldest, a son, a daughter and then two kids followed, another girl then boy.
The father was REAL strict, he was a beater and the son, who around his late teens or early 20's, always had a falling out with him. So, one day, he has had enough. The eldest girl went with him on his plan to kill his parents. The father because he was a brute, the mother because she neglected to do anything about it.
So, the son went into the room and killed both of them but, the SISTER killed her two younger siblings. (apparently, they found her prints on the gun as well). He was so upset that she killed her own brother and sister (because she was tired of them), he killed her for killing their siblings! So, technically, he was charged with three murders as opposed to 5.
Interesting, huh? So, that house was where all those murders took place.

The murders at 112 Ocean Ave in Amityville by making use of Ronald Defeo jr became into actual. He murdered his 2 brothers, 2 sisters and the two mom and dad of their beds. yet, the Amityville Horror tale became into thoroughly made up by making use of George and Kathy Lutz who're now the two deceased.

The murders are true, the house exists, but whether or not it's haunted by a bunch of freaked out spirits is questionable.

Yes, it's true and yes the house does exist, and no don't be stupid and go there trying to see for yourself, they changed the side that faces the road so that it doesn't look the same.
