I own a ford e150 designer van and i was wondering if any mechanics know why I can't start the gas guzzler. It makes a ticking noise like a quiet jackhammer. Is that the starter or maby the altrnator or possiblly something else. Help Me Please.

Sounds like the starter solenoid-It has an external solenoid out front under the hood(if that's called a hood)(mini) U either have a Dirty connection @ the Battery or the battery is low because the system isn't charging.Get some jumper cables & try that.U need 2 start @ the battery & go from there. If it starts U need 2 have the Charging system checked - then have the Battery (LOAD) tested.

depending upon the year.....

sound like a bad battery, bad or corroded connections at the battery, starter solenoid on the side wall or on very late e-series in the fuse box (all the vans have it even the new ones that have a solenoid on the starter).. bad starter or bad ground connection....

usually it's a bad starter however as it sounds like you are getting the power down there.. easy way is to see if the lights are dim or bright.... turn on the headlights.. if dim, try a new battery first.. if bright probable starter

first check battery, cable condition ect. then move to start solenoid on right fender check for continuity through the 2 large poles when the switch is engaged. you will need help to do this. if there is continuity across both poles and no start. then it is a good chance it is just a starter, a relatively inexspensive item good luck

did you check the fuel pump regulator? maybe it,s stopping the gas from getting to the valve. pull the hose off of it and see if gas runs out the hose. there should,nt be no gas in the vacuum hose.
