I screwed up the location of the address bar and other icons towards the top of the internet explorer. How can I reset this to get back the original location for these items?

At the begining of the address bar, menu bar and icon toolbars is a faint dotted vertical line, hold your mouse over it until you see a double ended arrow instead of the usual mouse cursor, left click and keep the mouse button pressed down whilst you drag and drop the bars to the required location.

To show / hide / customise the toolbars click on VIEW then click on TOOLBARS and select / deselect as required.

Right click on the toolbar and click on "lock the toolbar". Drag the address bar and other icons to the position you want (original or other preferences), and click again on "lock the toolbar", so that the changes you made remain.
