Vocal chords in any mammal need the force of air from within to work, I know we can all make sounds breathing in but I doubt that a cow would think of experimenting!

try breathing in and saying moo...then try breathing out and saying moo..i think its out because well..its more of the mooing sound? lmho

If they were breathing in, it would be, um, breath.

Then they release a big fat MOOOOO. So, yes, they breathe out. :)

definatly an out. watch them in the winter time, when its frosty out, there will be a big cloud of steam when they moo.
