It depends on how it is used really. I am a redneck country boy and it doesn't hurt my feelings to be called a redneck at all. You could call me a Niger, Honky or white trash and it wouldn't bother me either. Consider the source, and then ask yourself is it worth getting all hot and bothered over a ridiculous term by an idiot? Ha! Not at all. Life is too short to worry about what somebody else thinks.
Have you ever heard of the comedian Jeff Foxworthy? He is famous for making jokes regarding rednecks. Here are a few.
You might be a redneck if....
...Your momma has ammo on her Christmas list.
...You have been on TV more than five times describing how the twister got your trailer.
....Your kid has more teeth than you do.
....You use your fishing license as a form of ID.
....The state lottery is your idea of a retirement plan.
...Your idea of a drive by shooting involves a shot gun and a stop sign.
....if your Christmas ornaments are made out of shotgun shells.
He describes 'redneck' as a 'Glorious lack of sophistication.'
So no, it is typically used in a form of a joking putdown and rarely taken seriously.

The term "Redneck" was used to describe the people who worked out in the fields. My Mother tells of long sleeves and gloves in the Summer heat just so they would look pale white just like the girls from town. So when someone calls me a redneck I just smile. For I have never been ashamed of being from the country or from a working class family. The term "Redneck" fits me just fine.

speaking in tongues is between the presents of the Spirit listed interior the Bible. There are various diverse recommendations on the remember, i will furnish you with all of them and allow you to pick on. a million. Tongues is a present that change into for the early church in worry-free words, it disappeared even as the Bible were finished. 2. it really is a present the position someone can communicate an language unknown to them for the needs of attaining others with the gospel. 3. it really is a prayer language the position the fellow can communicate to God in utterances that they don't even understand what they say. It does seem a smooth concern with a lot of human beings, yet those are the three significant recommendations for it.

Personally, I do not find the term "redneck" offensive, "white trash" maybe. I had a British uncle ask me if being called a "Yank" offended me. When I said no, no more than being called a "Limey" would offend him ... he was offended. I guess it is in the ear of the beholder so to speak and perhaps we should avoid using slang and use proper language.

No. Redneck refers to someone with a red neck. Usually from a sunburn. It's origins are from the south, and usually refer to people who live in a trailer park. (According to Jeff Foxworthy anyways) But, no, I don't find it offensive. Actually, it's pretty funny. By the sounds of it, you think a lot is offensive, so maybe you should relax a little. No need to get all worked up by a name. Let it go.

it is used to put down people from the South. It is mean and shouldn't be used by anyone. Calling them racist and dumb.
I live in the greater Southwestern State and we find it very offensive. We are neither dumb or racist. Texas known for being rednecks has more Mexicans and black people than any other state. They are neither racist or mean. We are kind and hospitable to all races.

It's like anything else, what was the intention when the word was used and who was it being said by or who was it being said to? I personally am not offended by this term, but i know some people who are. Some of us respond by saying Hell Yeah, when we are being called rednecks. So again, it can be a source of pride, but it just depends when, where, and who. Bottom Line: If this offends your friend she should vocalize that.

Originally is was an insult; lately (because of Jeff Foxworthy, perhaps) people have fun with it.
It seems your friend has two different uses for it: affectionate and joking (the newer sense), and derogatory (the original sense).
Interesting, isn't it?
I would be offended if I were called it, but then I'm a classy educated pinko subversive freak from California, so it just wouldn't fit.

Redneck is a slang term for a dumb southern boy...who drives a Pick up truck and isn't too bright. I guess only the whites qualify but it isn't a general term...mostly occurs in jokes
