a blinking overdrive light on the gear shifter is indicating a problem with your transmission, take your vehicle into a qualified service repair center and have it checked out.You do not need to take it to a transmission shop to check it out. Any good shop that employs ASE Master techs http://www.ase.com should be able to diagnose your trans problem

call the Ford Dealership and verify with the service Mgr or Lead Mechanic. There are interchange lists which will allow you to know even if you may change vehicles, or if this engine is an analogous because the Taurus. frequently, the version contained in the Aerostar and the Taurus is that the Aerostar makes use of a truck engine and has an prolonged stroke than the Taurus.

as others have said, the flashing o/d light is a sign the engine computer has found something wrong with the transmission... check the fluid level first with it running and hot to make sure you have enough (the level should be in the cross hairs).. then bring it to a shop as someone has said , either is ASE certified, a transmission shop, or even the dealer for proper diagnosis

Would have to take it to a tranny place, or dealership. There is something wrong with either the transmission, or the O/D isn't engageing when it should. Good luck.
