The AAP says that babies should continue to have breastmilk or formula until 12 months of age and THEN they can begin the transition to whole milk if you choose.

NOOOOOO------10 months is too early to stop giving your baby formula. Actually your baby will naturally decide. This doesn't usually happen until the baby is close to one. And remember -NOT TO GIVE YOUR BABY SALTY FOOD. When your baby is teething, this makes it harder for the teeth to cut through the gums. When your baby is hungry, try to feed him baby food 1st, then after the baby has had enough, then give him the bottle. Believe me, the baby will begin to drink less milk. So in essence, he will ween himself off. Your baby is too young for whole milk now. There are nutrients in the formula that he can't get from the whole milk. You should only start giving him whole milk, once he is one year of age. And remember, when your baby starts drinking whole milk, he has to remain drinking whole milk only (not 2% or anything low cal) until he reaches the age of two.
Good luck!

12 months and no sooner. You can add cereal to the formula if the baby eats alot, although that has been linked to chilhood obesity. At 12 months you should be giving the baby whole milk. Not skim, not 2%. Children need that fat for at least the first 3 years to help in brain development. Stick to your guns. If she won't give in, have the pediatrician talk to her. You are the advocate for this chld and if you screw it up now, you can't take it back.

My husband and I have been weaning our daughter of 9 months off slowley she still has a bottle for early morning breakfast(8 oz of formula) then around 10 or 11 Am I feed her gerber baby food. usually oatmeal or rice cereal and then a plastic container of fruits from gerber. I will tell you that cows milk is not at all good for babys or even toddlers. my daughter has bottles for the rest of the day and then for dinner she gets chicken and pears or beef and vegetables(gerber second foods) and a container or two of vegetables.and right before she goes to bed we give her a bottle. My husband and I have agreed that when she can feed herself little table foods then we lean toward food and less on the bottle. usually you stop the bottle around 1 and a half or two years old. and I do know of children 3 or four years old still drinking a bottle here and there. talk to your babys doctor. And choose a best option for your family. talk with your babys mother about your concerns. you may find that it helps to explain your feelings toward this matter.Luck to you, Kristen

I started weening my boys after they turned 1 but you must do it carefully mix formula with the whole milk or water the milk down abit...because the calcuim I think causes the baby to get constipated and its so sad to see them go through that good luck:)

You should never switch a baby until 12 months, and you should still consult your doctor. Some docs say that 14-16 months is better. But as early as 10 months is never advised by anyone.

i have always heard not to give it to them untl 1 yr of age. you can go to www.americanbaby.com, and in the search type whole milk, and it comes up with a lot of stuff about weaning from formula to whole milk and when to do so. might be good to ask a dr too.

Doctors say they should stay on formula until they are a year old. So I agree. keep him on formula for another couple of months. I know 2 months doesnt seem like that big of deal, but to a growing baby it is!

Babies can't diget cows milk very well unless they are at least a year old. It can give them horrible gas pains and make them sick. It can even cause them to be lactose intolerant later in life.
Tell her to wait 2 more months!
