Don't think of college the same way you thought of high school. Thankfully, it's a totally different world. Be yourself! You'll find friends who share your interests and will like you for who you are.
You're not thrown together with a bunch of people who just happen to live in your town, like high school. People choose to go to a particular college in a particular place...that gives you something in common already.
There are different groups of people in college, but I wouldn't call them cliques. You will gravitate to the groups you feel most comfortable in, don't worry about "fitting in."

Hello,
A girl I loved broke my heart in college and I became so depressed I could not continue. I could not tolerate seeing her every day walk the square with someone else. I did not even have the frame of mind to withdraw from classes and instead received a F. My GPA fell, first putting me on probation and then fell further, the school expelled me. I am not blaming the girl but I wish I was warned this could happen before hand so I could have protected my heart a little bit more. There is not much difference between a person's first love and an obsession.
It was not the end of the world though. Years later I reentered school and excelled. Do not underestimate the value of an education and do not underestimate your emotions getting in the way.

You are there to learn and not to fit in. You will never see most of these people ever again. Put your social life on the back burner and study as much as possible. By all means avoid the party crowd because they are the ones who will flunk out.
Make mom and dad proud.
Good luck!

You already made it through Elementary, Middle, and High School. There is no reason not to fit in.

If you are having difficulty fitting in, consider talking with a counselor who can help you determine what is preventing you from fitting in. (Eg., difficulty with social skills, cultuarl, emotional/psychological, anxiety)

Never under-estimate anyone. Try to avoid the social games of high school, they will come back to bite you.
