I've done this actually grown my nail long after 30+ yrs of biting them up to my elbows!. I just filed the nail to give them a smooth edge, pushed the cuticles down then painted them with clear nail hardener, that you reapply every couple of days. You got to really want them to grow. You'll be suprise at how fast they actually grow. Be warned though nail biting is like an addition it's easy to fall off the wagon and start biting them again, I did this too and starting from scratch again ( bad pun ). Don't get stressed it don't help. lol.
Good Luck

I have been a nail biter for my entire life until I was 20 and then I decided to put gel nails on and leave them for a month or two and it took me about 8 months of doing this off and on it finally worked and I have pretty nails that I have not bit for about 5 months :)

Cut your nails really short.. i mean close to your skin.. you wont be having any to bite on. Keep it like that for few weeks, gradually you'll loose the nail biting feeling.

Start wiping your butt with no toilet paper for a week and then think about biting your nails. Biting your nails is gross because of all the crap underneath them that you consume when you are biting them off.

I am a life long nail biter and the only thing that has ever worked for me is to keep getting acrylic nails. When I take them off my real nails are VERY long.

Get your nails done at a salon w/ a cute design - with your name or a french manicure.
Your nails will be so cute that you don`t want to bite them!

most people answered your question nicely
it is self control !
and rewards are great insentive!
but really the bottom line is if you want to quit you will!
so want it more then anything!
every time you notice you biting your nails just remind yourself why you want to stop!
don't be hard on yourself we are human! but when you notice and everytime you notice stop!
find something to do with your hands start a gum wrapper chain link!
or take up knitting! or something that will keep your hands occupied!
Good luck!
ex nail biter!

Buy polish that tastes nasty, there is like a special polish to stop nail biting.Or get acrylic or gel nails, it's harder to bite them.

Paint your nails with foul-tasting nail polish and stop yourself everytime you go to bite your nails. Failing that, sew yourself into a pair of gloves!
