I have got televisions in the house, but the aerial does not work and we do not wish to have a tv to watch channels just to use it for watching videos, dvd's and playing computer games

As long as there is no aerial the answer is no, a license is for the receiving of transmissions. But you'll have to prove it to the BBC first.

A little research produces the following official answer;


You need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence.

Please write to us including your name, address and the reason you believe that you don't need a licence at:

Not sure but best to check it out with the Tv linces people. Go to post office and get there number or look on net for it as itshould tell you there.

No you don't you only need one if you actually receive a television signal which you won't be. you've gone and saved yourself some money now go out and spend it on more DVDs and games.

Yes you do.Sucks doesn't it.They are b******s about checking and the fines are very steep.

well yes you need a lience because you can if you want to get a signal so i would get one mind its £1000 if you get caught
