Tai Chi and Yoga are wonderful exercises for strengthening weak muscles, as well as improving flexibility and joint health. You might consider looking into classes in your area or checking the video section at your local library.

If your lower back is weak, then talk with a doctor or physical therapist about the condition of your back. There are exercises designed especially for your situation. Be sure to follow directions; the alternative is further injury. If you have already done so, then keep up the good work. Some things just take time. Other types of damage are irreversible. You'll have to learn to live with it. Be careful. Good luck.

I too would recommend you explore Hatha Yoga. Find a good teacher who is knowledgeable about therapuetic applications of yoga for specific maladies or weaknesses. Along these lines, instructors in "IYENGAR YOGA" are trained in this way and may be a good form for you to seek out.
.... Another modaility which may prove helpful for you is Chinese medicine and acupuncture. This is often very effective for folks with this sort of problem. Find a well recommended and experienced practitioner.
