My wife is taking Keppra for seizures and we are thinking of having a baby but what are the chances of birth defects and what precautions should we take before conceiving?

She needs to talk to her doctor about this. Many medications are harmful to an unborn child. I looked up Keppra and it has been linked to birth defects.

Keppra may cause birth defects. You need to speak to a Doctor before she becomes pregnant.

One of my children has epilepsy and she switched to Tegretol for seizure control and we are now proud grandparents! It is my understanding that Tegretol is successful in pregnancy with small chance of side effects. I would check with your wife's OB/Gyn to get final answers on Keppra and any other meds the doctor might consider. It is always best to prepare for a pregnancy when they are multiple factors to consider. Not only is it best for mom, best for baby too. Prayers =)
