First of all, Virginia is a big state with lots to do. From the historical areas of the Williamsburg and Jamestown to the urban areas of Hampton Roads, Norfolk, and Northern Virginia. There is the coastline at VA beach. There is plenty of natural beauty in the state. Drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive and enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains. The national D-Day memorial is in Bedford and Lexington is home to VMI and Washington and Lee university. Lakes and rivers dot the state with plenty of opportunities to fish, swim and kayak. There are plenty of things to do in Virginia. All depends where you are staying.

It's a big, diverse state...everything from Virginia Beach, to Williamsbur, to the mountains in Charlottesville and Waynesboro...even DC is right outside VA.

Philadelphia isn't in Virginia, so for starters, I would say buy a map.
