This idea comes from the ancient times. During that time Man was a hunter-gatherer. It was the male duty to hunt wild animals for food. This aspect of life did not change even after man began to settle down.

While the Women stayed home, reproduced, took care of the babies and cooked food, it was the man who ventured outside into the unknown and faced all sort of dangers provide for his family. This does not in anyway mean that women had a very easy and comfortable time at home. She too had her own hardships and problems to face.

This is human psychology that has not changed for centuries. The assertiveness comes from the fact that due to the above aspects of human life, man considers himself the dominant sex. To some extent the women allow this as well. Every Woman is willing to profess about equality of sexes but how many are willing to practice it? If a Woman thinks that she is equal to a man in all ways then he or she should be willing to live that way.

Even in nature Woman is not created equal to Man. One example of this is the fact that while an 80-year-old man, at his age can still impregnate a girl easily, but can an 80-year-old woman get pregnant as easily? This is a crude example per se but it is truth.

Also there are other factors like, a man in one ejaculation can produce enough sperm to impregnate at least ten thousand women (provided that all his sperm cells reach their destination but can a woman do this in her entire reproductive life?

The physical strength of a man (brought about by the hormone Testosterone) also has a lot to do in promoting his assertive and aggressive nature. Testosterone makes a man aggressive, take risk and generally highly competitive. This hormone is found in tiny quantities in women also. It is this hormone that gives the man his strength. The fact that this is found in tiny quantities in Women suggests that nature intentionally created the women as she is.

All these make a man rather arrogant and over-confident.
It is these that make a man assertive in a relationship.

It is the quality of a woman to understand this and diplomatically manipulate a man. Women like Cleopatra, Helen of Troy etc, have done this for centuries.

In some homes, I have seen posters that depict a man sitting on a Master chair, there, on a Wall Plate behind him are these words, " I am the Master of this house ", and in slightly small letters " with the permission of my Wife ".

I am pretty Damn assertive ....! I know what I want... I speak my mind and I get it....!
I also know what my hubby wants and I DO IT!
So what was the question again? Wait! It just does not apply to me.... I am unlike other women or at least the ones you are speaking of! ♥

I think it's biology.

Whenever I was the assertive one in the relationship, he was --eventually, never really "that into me."

That started back in biblical times where the woman wasn't aloud to speak or ask questions in the social outing. When the man and woman were alone at home, then she called talk, ask question, express opinion.

When women didn't work.

Now women work and are still (sometimes) NOT assertive.

Have fun with your answers cause you'll get a lot of opinions on that!
