I smoke cigarettes, but I try to do it in solitude, just to get the nicotine. Cigar smokers seem to have this attitude that goes with it.

Rich, You got some interesting answers here.

As I am sure that some cigar smokers smoke for an "ego thing" as you put it, due to the status of smoking a fine cigar. And I am sure some of these guys have attitudes, but it in NO WAY represents all or even most of the cigar smokers. As an avid cigar smoker, I do not crave a cigar like a cigarette, as you do not inhale a cigr but rather savor the flavor in the mouth and on the tounge. I enjoy a cigar alone or in the company of other smokers, but the key word there is enjoy. I do not smoke my cigars with any ego whatsoever. I just enjoy what the cigar offers, an nice hour of pleasurable smoke.

The people you are refering to in your question do not represent the cigar world.

Well, I think it's a little of both. If you you demand a quick nicotine rush out of your smoke, then a cigar is probabley a waste of time and money. Because a decent cigar will take up to and or over and hour to smoke and a couple of sticks will cost more than a pack of cigs. If you like savoring flavorful aromatic tobacco smoke but not inhaling it, then it will be very pleasurable. It is kind of an ego thing because it distinguishes you from smokers emitting cigarette smoke, which most find annoying, while cigar 2nd hand smoke is aromatic, pleasant, even.

It's definitely pleasurable, but it's an acquired taste. Most people smoke cigars for the flavor, not the nicotine; in fact, you're not supposed to inhale the smoke from a cigar (unlike a cigarette, for example). Cigars come in far more flavors than cigarettes and are much more relaxing; no one chain-smokes cigars.

You are right about the ego thing! For some reason cigars have this etiquette of sucess attached to it . One often smoke a cigar to celebrate something for some stupid reason.Ex: having a baby is one. "Big ShotS" like to smoke them ...It's bigger and stinkier. Imagine even Arnold ( pro bodybuilder)smokes them just for the bullshit of it! I'm an occasional smoker and I can't even stand cigars!

A good cigar is very pleasurable. It tastes good, smells good, and can be the center of a social gathering. Oh, and the nicotine too.

it starts out with the ego and ends up as a habit..I wish I never started..now some major brands increased their nicotine in their cigarettes...it's funny the cigarette companys spends millions of dollars trying to help you quit..it's like a sneaker company telling you not to run..
