Your question sounds a bit fishy to me. I cant see the porpoise of it really.

We must take into consideration two aspects before making up our mind. Normally we are used to consider only one, and this is why we have to think, or ask, questions like this.

The first aspect is to ask - do dolphins like to take over, do that have a need, or huger, for world domination as most of us humans do? We do not have right to choose for other species what we think is good for us and therefore good for them automatically. We do not know what they really like? This is a mistake that we have always made, and now we are facing the consequences in form of continual infighting, environmental issues and deep inner dissatisfactions at all levels.

You see, dolphins, like horses or pigeon, are at peace. They think that they are at the peak of their evolutionary potential. They feel that so deeply that that actually do not have to think about it anymore. They are the very embodiment of what they actually are. They are not tormented by the thoughts of incompletion, under-accomplishement and dissatisfaction of general kinds.

The second aspect to the question is regarding our human psyche. We think that we have taken over the world, as the most intelligent species in the past few thousand years, is this really the case? Or is it a fallacious understanding from our narrow point of view? If we are able to interfere with the nature, and with the lives of all other inhabitants of the planet, then does it mean that we are dominant upon them? Is this really wise thing to do? Isn’t it that an ability not to interfere is the true virtue? Do we have to needlessly evolve into supper intelligent beings to survive, or simply to be happy, or should we learn to make the best of what we have rather than asking for more?

And then when we fail in result of our own misconceptions and ignorant pursuits we conclude that the end of the world is close. And that some aliens are going to attack us, or the world is going to be taken over by sea urchins, etc.

The answer to you question therefore is – a simple no! We have no right, and nor we have the wisdom to think like this. Dolphins? They are a happy lot. They even play with us at times – if we behave that is. Why would you think then of them becoming egomaniacs like us to take over the entire planet? This is not right; this is going too far into the sacred bounds of animal kingdom. We are destined to stay in our fallacious understanding until we genuinely learn to find peace for ourselves within ourselves. In the meanwhile please leave the dolphins alone!

Wiped out by whom i hear u say?.....Its probably going to be by their own hands, what with all the various nuclear powers and all.

....But personally, i do not wish for human beings to be wiped out and for dolphins to take over. I think humans are an incredibly complex, resilient but yet SIMPLE concept....who have been able to survive through years of evolution and change. If you think about it the basic anatomy and physiology of the Human being has changed hardly at all despite changes in technology and the environment.
Unless dolphins evolve at an astronomical rate and develop a complex brain/conscience and go amphibious, they may then just stand 1/1000000 a chance of overpowering us.

Well, not necessarily for the Dolphins, but yes, it's the only way the Earth will ever recover.

"Has the golden age of humanity passed without us even realising it ?"

Let's wait and see if anyone finally develops one of these bio-chemical weapons that eradicates all human life, but leaves all other untouched, (Remember 1971's "The Andromeda Strain" movie?) or one that can deliver a suitably large high power Electromagnetic pulse, sending us all back to the dark ages.

I subscribe to the progressive model of humanity,

i mean we have discovered more about the world and oursleves albeit through process of destoryimg it, but i would say knoweldge and understanding is better than being an slave. At least we humans try for better ourselfs even though it will in the end it will fails us.

But dolphins can hardly take over, then can't even come onto land? Personally I think cats are aliens. they've been studying us for years. They will take over. I knew a girl who thought that about seagulls.

I read somewhere that Lemmings in Canada drown themselves in droves, when their population becomes too much. Probably our time has come, seeing the way we treat Mother Gia and each other.

Which species will take over?

God will decide by bestowing the faculty of reasoning and discrimination on that species hoping that they would use it better than us the humans.

Not just the dolphins. Any creature could probably made a better job of it than we have so far.

no because dolphins are bigger bastards than humans, its only because they dont have fire that they havent the technology to destroy the world.

They dont kill us as they want to be on our side cos they know that we could destroy them and they used their sly weasling ways to provoke the production of the film "jaws" which nearly caused the extinction of the great white shark. The dolphins felt that the sharks were encroaching on their territory and stealing their fish.
