how do you stop your drunken friend who wants to kill her/him/self ?and wont listen to nothing but negativity?

A. tell him/her something that is not true (tell lies) but you know he/she would "LIKE" to hear because it relates to the given situation of conversation?
B. tell the truth (however sad and pathetic it may be ) and give your honest oppinion (hide nothing without emotion )
C. give advice in the face of ADVERCITY no matter what looks he or she will give you, positive or negative, no matter what he or she will say or do to you will you still persist for a result in the drunken face of ADVERCITY / DENIAL ?.... or ........
D.When all you have tried ,,, said ,,,, and done ,,, and more ,,,, will you give him/her the KEY to freedom ? and just say O.K. . . . KILL YOURSELF YOU BAST***D" heres a gun .... or razor or noose or whatever"!!!!?????

I have found uout that IF NO OTHER WAY TO GET THROUGH TO THEM is simply give them a hard slap around the face. this shocks the system and body. then you got about 4 seconds to get thier attention and drum the message home.

why dont you offer to take them out for the day ie to a river or a park with lots of plant etc especially now the leaves are coming off the trees and just enjoy an activity Like playing tennis, rollerblading, cycling or even getting a boat up the river.
set off early in the morning, get breakfast on the way and then go for a nice lunch show them that life is all about FUN!

just sit with him, talk to him dont try to reason with him he wont listen if hes drunk, all you can do is hide all knives, pills, razors hammers etc anyhting that he could cause harm to himself with and just be there, if he really wants to do it then he will do it when hes drunk and alone not with people around him, my ex bf threatened this a few times in the 7 years we were together, even tried to get me to kill him! its normally a cry for help because people wont genrally talk about killing themselves they just do it, sometimes planned other times not, talk to him when hes sober and see what he has to say for himself , if he says he is still suicidal then you have to take him to the drs they are the only ones who will know how to deal with it, if anything does happen when you are there all you can do is call an ambulance and do what you can, he may threaten to walk out and kill himself somewhere where you wont know where he is if you threaten to call police or ambulance as my ex did so all you can do , if you really want to , you dont have to , is stay and wait the night out,
oh and i did try the reverse psychology on my ex when he made threats and it can work, i said youll be doing everyone a favour if you just get on with it instead of keep talking about it and everyone is getting fed up with you and it worked because he was soooo stubborn and hated people that he wanted to get to them more than actually kill himself!!
but be carefull because it can work the other way round too!!

While he is drunk then the answer would have to be A. When they've sobered up a bit I'd go with D!
They don't really want to kill themselves it's just a cry for help. If he really wanted to do it, he would've by now and he wouldn't be telling you about it either!

Try telling them what would happen to you and all the other people they know if they ever did try to kill themself, How much they would hurt you and other people arround them who love them. Tell them that mental hospitols are not fun places to be and that is where they would end up if they tried.

If your friend could really end up a danger to himself, tell someone call the cops or a mental hospitol, because if your friend tries to kill him or herself them that is where they will end up anyway.

If all else fails you could tell them that they are such a failure that they would probably fail at trying to kill themselves and end up no better off.

BBBBB definatly b because if they are unsure the last thing that they want to feel is as if they are being lied to because most people can detect lies so that will just enoy them a bit more :) the thing you shoulbe pointing out is things to look forward to

but seriously... if he or she was going to do it they would have atleast attempted it by now and if you are that concerned you would have discussed it with someone who can in some way help them and or committ them to a Hospital for survalence

I chose (c) from your predetermined list. However, this individual needs counseling. My best friend locked up everything and gave away all my knives and anything perceived as sucidial tools. She forced me in taking my Effexor and Xanax, and stayed with me telling me "Quit being stupid! Everything will be alright!"

E- Tell and adult anyone who wants to kill themselves will eventually at least try. If he becomes angry with you that is his problem he will eventually see that you really are a true friend. If he never forgives you at least you will know you were a true friend.

Alcoholism is a disease of depression...how about E. get his/her family & friends together, get information from a 'friends & family of alcoholics' group & do an intervention. Get this person the help they need, before it's too late...even if it requires hospitalization.
