As far as Americans wanting to have Scottish ancestors, the rest of the stereotypes for the world are all negative, the Scottish stereotype doesn't really have a negative impact since they were oppressed by the British like every other English culture was, and there has been allot of media attention on Scottish culture in the past few years. But I don't believe that a majority of Americans want to have Scottish ancestors, maybe just the ones you know because you're a good and intelligent person.

I am half Scottish, 1/3 French and 1/6 Native American. I personally would like a Scottish woman for a bride because from what I've seen of my parents and grandparents, Scottish women are very intelligent, very opinionated, and often very fiery. I want a woman who has passion, and would like one that is very intelligent so she's not fighting me over every stupid thing because I can reason with her. Intelligent people tend to have the ability to think logically, and logic is what's lacking in immature women.

I personally want a Scottish bride, and if you know of any way an American can meet Scottish women on-line without having to go to Scotland, I would jump at the chance to get to know them.

Hmm ... well, I've never heard that Americans wanted to be Scottish before, but ... here are some possible reasons ...
Some people might find red hair, freckles, and pale skin to be cute ...
Here's a few famous Scottish people ... Ewan McGregor, Mary, Queen of Scots, Billy Boyd ... Sean ... Connery? o_0;;; ...that people may look up to/enjoy
Also, kilts can be ... rather ... spiffy ...

It's not that Americans "want" to have Scottish ancestors. It just happens that much of the southern part of the US was settled by Scottish and Irish immigrants.

I have never heard that before, but I must admit Scotland is a pretty cool place. We are studying ballads in English class and one of them is from a Scottish author, and it was a couple of hundred years old so it was very difficult to understand the dialect. Anyway, my teacher had somebody reading it on an audio and we listened to it and it was very beautiful.

I've never heard that before. Maybe you're just flattering yourself? Just kidding! I don't know, possibly the connection to the accent, the culture, movies like braveheart, or the fact that many Americans, if not most, are of some partial scotch descent.

Your not drunks like the Irish, or pricks, like the English. Your people were polictical, rather than economic refugees. You ripped off the Cherokee for all the really good land in North Carolina where you have the Highland Games. What's not to love?

I didn't WANT Scottish ancestors, I just have them. My family name is Drummond..... I know, just as common over there as Smith is here. I also have Gass cousins near Perth. But, hey, why not? Rob Roy, William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scotts.....

Although I do like you, I am a Scotch/Irish American with my only claim to heritage coming every March 17th so I can drink to excess without remorse.
