Look into repacement windows, our local home depot has an arangement whitch takes out the old widow sashes and replaces them with modern low 'E' widows. I'm a carpenter and do this work myself it's a fact that this approch saves money in heat and cooling. ask about replacment windows that leave the original frames and just remove and replace the sashes. Sashes are the actual windows, the parts that move :-)
