If you've already checked for power plugs or other electrical equipment that could be putting out this sound, then I think you most likely have tinnitus, which is an inner-ear condition. There are medicines you can take to reduce the noise--check with your doctor.

I have jet engines, vacuum cleaners, bells, dogs, and sometimes all of ELO's naff albums going off at once ..... and I am profoundly deaf (ex Marine Engineer of 28 years)! Now that adds insult to injury.
Tinnitus is often caused by stress. The only thing that has ever given me relief, apart from a new approach to life in general, is an immune helper and an endocrine supporter (hormones). Don't ask me how it helps, but it is the only thing that has.

could be something called tinnitus that comes from condition called pseudotumur ceribi. you should see a nuerologist. I have the same thing, I was given medicine to treat it but the side affects were so annoying I stopped taken it. I've found that since I lost some weight the I hardly ever hear the sound.

I just KNOW you wont believe it but it is TRUE I promise.

When I was at Uni (xx yrs ago), I used to lay awake due to this cricket type noise, it drove me mad. I dismantled the room looking for insect & put cockroach killer under the floorboards etc, but the noise just continued...arg!

Then one night a new girlfriend stayed over (well she'd missed the last bus) & she suddenly turn to me & said "Your watch is noisy"...I listened & noticed that the sound was regular, I picked up my watch & realised that the noise & the movement of the second hand occurred at the same time. It was the sound of the hand moving in my watch!!!

THIS IS THE HONEST TRUTH!

Sounds like tinnitus. I have suffered with it for years. It got really bad last year, and for me it is continuous. My doctor prescribed Betahistane for me, but it didn't work. I find taking a daily dose of Gingko Biloba helps take the edge off it, otherwise its unbearable. But please, see your GP about it, as it isn't continuous, it could be a slight inner ear infection that may be really easy to clear up.

Sounds like a classic case of tinnitus to me too. Whistles, chirrups, cheeps. They are all par for the course. Of course it could be a simple case of shifting ear wax once you lay down.

Ive got this problem., I have tinnitus .but when Im busy I dont always notice it.

I also have a pulsating/banging noise in my ear..which is actually the pulse I can hear.

my problem is my eustachian tube being blocked.

all I can suggest is you go to the doctors.
In the meantime try to pop your ear and see if that helps.

Go get it checked, ringing in your ears, especially when paired with balance problems, could be inner ear problems, or a brain tumour. Better safe than sorry right?

I know what your talkin about. That never ending high pitch tone that sounds like a dead patient on a heart monitor. You dont usually notice it when other noises are around, but it's ALWAYS there.
