The easiest way to remember is to use a phrase that tells you the initials of the colours in order thus

The lowest frequency color is red anything under that we cannot see hence 'infrared' and the highest is violet anything beyond goes into the 'ultraviolet' realm. So all you need to do is go through the color wheel putting red on one extreme and violet on the other, you get:
red, orange, yellow, green blue, indigo and violet.

ok it depends on the way you look at it also, some people only see 4 colors when others see 10. and the go make your own rainbow and see. (take the garden hose and shoot water on the ground about 6 feet in front of you, then move around till you see the rainbow) note; the sun does have to be out in order for this to work.............
