go to start, click on control panel, then click on add/remove problems, scroll to you see messenger, and then click to remove, this will uninstall the program, then after that restart the pc.

If it is Yahoo Messenger ....just to to Start > control panel > add/remover programs > Yahoo Messenger > Remove

Dear my friend.
There are lots of way to remove a program of your computer.
The best and the easiest one is the way i am gonna tell you.
In windows xp go to Start------->Control Panel-----> Add or Remove programs----->find the program of the list you can do it for all the installed programs for example your messenger-------> you will see a bottum on the down right part of the selected program choose that and continue the wizard.

click set programs access and defaults
click change or remove programs
find messenger and then click uninstall

that should erase it entirely.

go to start > control panel> add/remove programs, then find the program you want uninstalled on the list, click on it, and remove it.

download this free program http://ccleaner.com/ go to tools and uninstall it from the list. then go to c/ program files/ find the folder and delete it. shouldnt see it again....POOOOOOF!!!!!! :)
