I think you mean "Nome sane?" which we interpret as "Know what I'm saying?"
I see you have been convicted of being a racist already by the knee-jerk convention and I think that's sad. You are asking a legitmate question without intending to be mean or disrespectful. The sad fact is that saying this sort of thing does not demonstrate good character traits. That being said, no coined often repeated phrase does demonstrate anything except low self esteem. This is true of black, white, red or whatever color you are. They are intended as conversation fillers so you can maintain control over the conversation.
I remember having a conversation with a young black student and his mother a few years back. This boy's behavior had recently become somewhat offensive in that he was emulating the way some of the low-life black kids acted. I sat in the conference and his mother ran him through the ringer, God bless her. He finally responded in desperation, "But Mom, if I act right in class, the other kids will think I'm a punk!" That brought things in to focus.
It is sad when we emulate what others do in order for them to like us. However, that's one of those things that you have to do when you are growing up: we each want to belong, so if a certain attitude will get us the respect of our friends, then it isn't being cool or indivdual: it's just being part of a select group of morons. God help us all from those.

You're confusing culture with race. People tend to congregate in groups based on all sorts of criteria including geography, race, religion, and many other factors. Groups tend to develop their own speach patterns. For example, in the south people tend to say things like "Get yourself some..." where as in the north they might leave out the word "yourself." See what I'm saying?

i thought they said, "you know what im saying", this is attitude, which is in all aspects of popular culture of the west. It started mostly in the 70's. It will never end. I guess what you should do is every time one of them say that say to them. "ah youre saying it again, stop that please and speak proper english" hopefully you will live to see another day after you do this, and if you do, perhaps then you will make a difference in the ebonics of a nation.

All groups of people (not races, not cultures but groups of people who congregate) have sayings that are common within their group. After it is heard several times it is generally picked up by other members of the group.

YES!! I thought I was the only one thinking about this...hehe. When they win awards in sports or movies. They always say "Blessing from God" or "Thank you God". You don't see that with any other races.
