Not really interested in playing mindless shooters etc., am more interested in pure, original gameplay - is a GameCube the right choice?

Heres the deal short and sweet. The Wii is coming out here right before Thanksgiving. The Wii is goin to be backward compatable with all the Nintendo games from the past. Meaning it will play Gamecube games, and you will be able to download and play N64, SNES, and NES games. Since the Cube is kinda gettin old like everyone else said, you can upgrade with the futire and be ready for whaever comes the WII way. And you'll still be able to play your gamecube games. Also, the cube games will expect to drop in price to, so that'll be something to look forward to once it comes out. Id go with a Wii at this moment for now on. Oh and real quick if your worried about that Wiimote and tryin to use it to play all the other old games dont worry, Nintendo doesnt sho it often but there will be a regular controller that looks alot liek the PS controller so you can play your games including Wii games like regular! Hope that gives you some thought

Just wait for the Nintendo Wii coming out soon. It'll be able to play GameCube discs and brand new games in a whole new control. You can also download almost the whole library of Nintendo's classic games from the NES, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64. All of this for under $250!

Only if there are specific games you want to play on it. I bought one soley to play Star Wars Rogue Squadron (there are two for Gamecube), also got Waverace and Metal Arms: Glitch in the System (very good and funny game! Is also available for PS2 but is reportedly not as good); well worth it to play these games as the console itself was so cheap, less than the price of a PS2 game, plus I got money off a couple of games which I bought at the same time.

Don't buy one unless you can do a deal to get some money off accessories and/or games bought with it!

There are many good reasons to buy a gamecube for you, I personally have one and love it but I think you may have more luck if you bought a PS2 and searched out the original games on that such as Psychonauts, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

No, buy a Nintendo Wii then it arrives, but buy GC games now while they are cheap (and quite rare!) because you can play them on it!

You can even use the GC joypads and other peripherals (like the Donkey Konga bongos etc.)

Its what I'm doing until PS3 comes down to a level where ordinary working people can afford it and not spoiled brats with too much money and not enough social skills to get a girlfriend.

I love my GameCube. It's been a while since I've played on it but there are some really excellent games. Super Mario Sunshine will provide entertainment for a very long time (I've not completed it after years) and Crazy Taxi is awesome!

The Cube has lots of great first party titles, but it's lacking in third party support. I would wait for the Wii. It's backwards compatible with the Cube and you'll have access to new games as well (and it's going to be pretty cheap compared to the 360 and the PS3).

EDIT: Iron Monkey is right, Eternal Darkness kicks ***.

Probably should wait for the Nintendo Wii. By the way, there are many quality choices among PC games as well.

Yeah I think you should, The Gamecube is pretty cheap now and so are the old good games for it.

Ebay has some for extraordinarily sturdy expenditures+ it would not be counted in the adventure that they are used because you may basically delete the counsel. there is various third social gathering manufacturers yet I continuously bypass with the valid Nintendo ones.
