I have the entire collection of the Command and Conquers the I had just purchased. I was wondering if I should skip the 1st one and go strait to the 2nd. And then play all of the Expansions NOD GDI YURIS revenge and firestorm. Or will I miss out on a big chunk of the story if i skip the first one?

No you won't miss much of the story since each game is a different "What if scenario", and the only ones that repeat the storyline are the ones which have expansion packs (Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge for example), but they just tell you all the details so you don't miss out on anything.
But more importantly is the gameplay itself, and ohhhh man, you MUST play Yuri's Revenge. Best game out of all the C&Cs even though each and every one scores highly, and definately one of THE BEST STRATEGY GAMES EVER!!!!
I hope to see you ingame and kick your *** in Yuri's Revenge, some time soon. :-P

Yes, play Red Alert 2 and then Yuri's revenge - and don't skip the movies, they are hilarious. After that play Generals. I tried Tiberian Sun but found it so dull I never finished. It may just be my tastes but that is what I think.

yes start with the first one not only for the story which you will miss but to understand all of the upgrades better. i love this game!!!
