I care about her and her partner deeply. They are great people. Her father will say to me, " When are you going to tie the knot ?"

I fear her dad will die and he will never know the truth and they will have something missing in their lives too.

It's obvious to me from the way you ask your question that you have deep reservations about participating in this lie. You don't seem to feel comfortable participating in an untruth.

I think the best possible thing that could happen would be that your friend and her partner "come clean" with her father. If they don't feel they can do that, then I think they should just leave matters as they are and not involve you in a lie.

Depends how the father would react or whatever bias he may have. Sometimes they're so prejudiced because of the attitude towards homosexuality that they grew up with they'd even turn against people who they previously treated with utmost respect.
My favorite artist is lesbian, and she's my idol, so even with all the bias in my school I support them. I guess if it's reall bad how he acts you might want to keep it a secret.

Do you normally lie to people...that is what you will be doing....I would stay out of it....if you are truly her friend you will tell her you do not feel comfortable pretending...Don't you think on some level her father already knows? Parents do, it is just a matter of facing it...

I think your thinking too much. She wants to protect her father and spare him the pain, if you are a true friend you will help her with this. I also have been in your position with my two lesbian friends and often went on dates with them to protect them from people who dislike lesbians. Be a friend and try not to interfere in her wishes.

If she doesn't want to tell them she is a lesbian, that is one thing. I don't necissarily disagree with hiding that, because all that is saying is that she likes to sleep with women, and really....whose business IS that anyway. But what you are doing if you are portraying yourself as her bf is purposefull deciet. There is a BIG difference between not telling one thing, and portraying a lie.

You sound like a good friend. It is not your worry, but hers if she dose not tell him, perhaps she knows/thinks this will hurt him. It could be a number of things, if you want to tell her how you feel then fine, but as a friend, if it will not cause you any harm, and not make you uncomfortable.....then I guess you should help her.

If her father is dying soon, it may be better for him to not know. Why upset him? Let him die with peace of mind.

NO, one lie leads to another. Let your friend tell her dad about herself. Now is the right time. If she waits, it may be too late and she will regret it.

not sure why she wants to lie to her dad. maybe she needs to rethink that. nowadays, it's not as much of a shock as she might think it will be. has she or you ever talked to her dad about gays and lesbians, to get a reading on what he thinks? if he's elderly or sick, then why ruin the rest of his life with your truth? tough decision.

If a friend ask you to be false, then she's not a friend. Sounds like she is lacking in character.
