if the war on terrorism is really worth supporting wouldn't a draft be a good way of showing our support? Other countries would see that most american's were truly willing to serve by not protesting the draft and that we were not just paying cheap lip service to the all volunteer army. Or would a draft erode support among republicans (dem's don't bother answering) for the war on terrorism.
Christian fundamentalist republicans wouldn't have to worry. I'm sure they could get out of an actual combat assignment based on their religious beliefs against war. But they would be willing to serve in another capacity, right? They could stand guard at major sporting events, shopping malls, disneyland and other popular terrorist targets. Would you be willing?

Yes I would support a draft. The present situation of depleting our reserves and national guard is insane. If the president is serious about a war on terrorism he should bring all the power to bear on the situation. The current "strategy" with the war on Iraq is a complete failure and needlessly draining the blood of thousands.

I support universal military service for all citizens from the ages 18 to 50 years. Somewhat like the Swiss system of government and military service. You don't serve - you don't vote. You don't serve - you don't receive social security, etc. Benefits should go to those who serve.

But to support a draft - yes I could, so long as the Politicians serve also. Not just to shirk their time in little known units that do not do anything. Such as our President is accused of doing.

I would support some form of universal military service.

PS Where did you get the idea Christian fundamentalist Republicans have religious beliefs against fighting in combat ?(perhaps you were joking?) Most of them seem to be quite gung ho about war in general. It's the Quakers who are most often Conscientious Objectors. Any Christian republican pacifists out them let me know if I'm wrong.

If we had a world war I would support a draft. But if it's just the "war" we are currently trying to fight, I would not support it at all. A "war" on terrorism cannot be faught the way a traditional war is. But then I think that the current war is a huge mistake in the first place.

I am all for the draft. I don't beleive it is fair for the same troops to have to go back 4 times to fight the war. Where are all the patriots? Also my son is a christian republican he spent 2 birthdays on the front line in Iraq.

Drafts are only for extreme emergencies (i.e. potential invasion). The war in Iraq or Afghanistan dosen't require hundreds of thousands of soldiers.

Yeah, but it wuldnt be called a "draft" per se, it'll be called "Patriot Act Part III: Rise of the TRUE Amerrcan Patriots."

No, I do not support the draft. We have enough volunteers, which I am very grateful for. I have one son. If he volunteered is one thing.....as a mother, I can't support the draft.

Nope. Kind of defeats the purpose of living in a "free" country.
