Most african americans would have no knowledge of Africa, mainly since most of the slaves were several generations removed from the first shipment of slaves that arrived in North America. I believe around 1640. But after the American Civil War there was a group of former slaves that did go back to Africa and they founded the nation of Liberia - short for Liberty.

The fact that one becomes a slave means one doesn't have freedom so it does not matter whether you live in America or Africa if you don't have freedom. I would have gone back to any place that offered freedom from slavery at that time. Even if it meant a place like Africa that is the mother of civilizations.

I think I would have stayed here. Because although I was in slavery and could not do what I wished, I at least had good shelter and there probably would have been less chance of disease, but if I actually was from Africa and wasn't born in America, then that might be a different story, because Africa would be what I knew instead of foreign America.

Regardless of how freedom was obtain, either through emancipation, manumission, or just plain ol' fugitive status, my destination would have been the same, Canada. While at that time it probably wouldn't have been all that much different racism-wise, at least Canada was part of the British Empire that was more tolerant of former slaves than even much of the Northern U.S.

FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THE SLAVES THAT WERE BROUGHT HERE FROM AFRICA WERE SLAVES IN AFRICA ALREADY. I THINK I WOULD HAVE STAYED HERE AFTER ALL SLAVERY WAS ABOLISHED HERE FIRST, AND THIS WAS AND IS STILL THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

I wouldn't be able to go back unless I bent time and space, which exhausts me profusely.

And because you want your question answered: No. Its too smelly and nobody bathed as frequently and there was slavery and all that dumb stuff.
