Hot water sets a stain. Use cold water to get stains out.

Hot water sets stains - cold water doesn't, and mostly warm water doesn't. You put a stained item in the dryer, the stain is set.

Heat sets the stain. If you have a stain in a garment that has been washed and dried without the stain being removed, you can still remove the stain, but it will take a bit more work. These sites should give you some ideas. I hope it helps.

I believe that it is hot water. If you wash something in hot water and forget that the stain is on there then after than you cannot get it out. Cold water does not do this.

No water never hurts. The dryer will set a stain though.

Hot water. It kind "cooks" the stain.

I think it depends on the stain. For example blood needs cold water to remove. (ewww)
