I don't know how old you are, first of all, so it is hard to answer that question. I think that cell phones are becoming more and more popular among kids. Usually not for the right reasons.. However if you are asking for it, really just for emergencies, then maybe you should look into a pre-paid plan. You can buy the cell phone and a 1 year plan (usually includes 250 mintues) for about 150$. If you honestly are only using it for emergencies, then those 250 mintues should last you a LONG time!!!

Just because all of your friends have a cell phone, isn't a valid reason for you to have one too. Cell phones are costly. I have an excellent plan with 3 cellphones in our family (all adults) & I pay close to $100.00 per month & we hardly ever use them. Just one more phone would make it about another $30.00/month or $360.00 per year more.
You say you want the phone just for emergencies, but there are plenty of ways to handle emergencies without a cellphone, & not all emergencies can be handled with a cellphone either.
If your parents are the ones who will have to pay for the cellphone then you will have to rely on their judgement as to when you should be given one for your own use.
Sorry.

Well you should get a virgin mobile or similar pre-paid. You have so many different plans that no matter how much money you have, i am sure there is something for you, i have a month to month i pay each month (though im not contracted) and i get free nights and weekends. but there are also by the minute plans. so whatever you need virgin mobile has it. and it wont cost you $150. you can get a phone for $20 and free nights and weekends for $44.99 so a total of $64.99 plus tax

Try to show her that you are responsible enough to have a cell phone. She might change her mind once she sees that. If you really tell her you want that cell phone and prove to her that you are mature enough to get it she might get you one. :)

i have the same problem. my mom doesnt think i need one. what i would do, and what i am doing, is save some money and buy a virgin mobile phone. its not a monthly plan, its a pay as you go type of thing. its not as much responsiblity as paying each month, and it will do until your mom lets you get a phone plan.
