I always have a craving for clear chicken noodle soup with the flu. I have that. Wait a while then a warm bath and before going to bed make honey and lemon drink which i take with paracetamol. Feel lke crap during the night but in the morning start feeling better. Important, wrap up well but go outside for fresh air, really clears the head. Keep doing this till you can feel it's left your system. A sort of elvis has left the building feeling!

There is no cure for flu, or the common cold. However, you can make yourself feel better by taking things easy and drinking plenty of fluids ( not alcohol ). Some interest has been directed to vitamin C as a preventative measure but there is no proof that it will stop a cold developing .
There are a huge variety of symptom-relieving products at any chemist but in order to find one that will help you, you should tell the pharmacist what your main symptoms are ( they vary from person to person ) and a suitable product will be matched to these.
You're right, Beechams may not be any good to you afterall, ask at your local chemist for advice, and hope you feel better soon ( if you have a cold that is ) .

There is no cure for influenza. You can get rid of the symptoms, however. Beechams All in One or Benylin 4 Flu has many active incgredients to tackle all the symptoms with one medicine. If your symptoms are only weakness and nasal congestion, try Lemsip sachets. They contain paracetamol for the achingin muscles and fever and a decongestant for the nose. The 'Breathe Easy' ones also contain vitamin C.

Get plenty of bed rest and drink plenty of water.

There isn't a cure, but I don't think you've got flu otherwise you wouldn't be up to asking any question. All you can do is ease the symptoms and I find Beechams as good as anything else.

Flu is caused by a virus and there is no 'cure', certainly antibiotics should be restricted to those at risk of developing serious complications of bacterial infections due to their age and compromised immune system. You can get immunised against the flu virus, usually this is done before winter using a vaccine against the most likely strain predicted to be around that year.
If you get flu you will need plenty of rest (in fact you will be too ill to do anything more strenuous than lift your head off the pillow), get plenty of drinks and nourishment and take pain killers. Paracetamol will help reduce your temperature. Then you must let nature take its course.

Rest in bed. Avoid physical exertion. Avoid using alcohol and tobacco.

Drink plenty of fluids such as water, fruit juices, and clear soups (chicken). Water should never be the sole or main liquid consumed because it does not contain adequate electrolytes (sodium and potassium, for example) that the body requires. Commercially available products such as Gatorade and other similar sports drinks can be useful in this regard. For children, ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets are another good way to replenish the body. A similar rehydrating solution can be made at home using salt, sugar, and plain or rice water. Adding some orange juice and mashed bananas enhances the taste and also provides a good source of potassium. Such a solution can be used by anyone, regardless of age.

Use cough suppressants and expectorants to treat the cough.

Steam inhalations may be useful in opening up a blocked nose and thus make breathing easier.

To create steam, boil water on the stove, remove the pot from the stove, then sit with a towel over your head and inhale the steam. The water should be hot, not boiling under your face. Use caution if you have asthma. You may enhance the decongestant effect of the steam by adding a half teaspoon of Vicks VapoRub, 1-2 drops of eucalyptus oil, or a few slices of ginger to the boiling water.

Another simple method is steaming up the bathroom by letting the shower run with hot water only. Inhaling the moisture in a steamy room can serve a similar purpose. Be careful, however, not to sit directly under the shower in order to avoid getting burned.

There is no cure per se, but Aboriginees used to burn Eucalyptus Leaves to relieve the fever. You could try inhaling some Eucalyptus essential oil in warm water.
Eat chicken soup with some chilli added. (As spicy as you can handle it).

Chilli is a natural cure for fever as it releases endorphins and opioids it also makes the body sweat, which will bring a fever down.
It also creates a natural high, which makes you "feel" better.

That's about all one can do as 'Flu' or influenza, as it should be called, is made up from several viruses, and is therefore totally reliant upon the body's immune system.

So have a hearty meal with plenty of chili, take some paracetamol, and put your feet up with a warming drink. (hot lemon and ginger tea, or a hot toddy, if you enjoy a snifter of whiskey occasionally).

Recipe for hot toddy:
I shot of whiskey in a mug, add hot water and honey or brown sugar to sweeten.

There's no single "best" treatment for flu, but there are many ways you can ease symptoms.

Prescription flu drugs can cut short the flu if taken when your first symptoms appear. Over-the-counter cold and flu medicines can offer some relief from fever and aches. They don't "cure" the flu, but may help keep you more comfortable. Keep this in mind: Doctors no longer believe in suppressing low-grade fever - except in very young and very old people, or people with certain medical conditions such as heart or lung disease. Low-grade fever helps the body fight off infection by suppressing the growth of bacteria or viruses and by activating the immune system.

What can help? Decongestants can help you breathe by shrinking swollen mucous membranes in your nose. Saline nasal sprays can also open breathing passages. Cough preparations are not hugely effective. For minor coughs, water and fruit juices probably help the most.

It's very important to drink a lot of fluids to keep your body hydrated. This helps prevent another infection from setting in. Avoid drinks like coffee, tea, and colas with caffeine. They rob your system of fluids. As for eating, follow your appetite. If you're not really hungry, try eating simple foods like white rice or broth.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

Fluoxetine.
No hold on, I'm getting mixed up.
There isn't a cure as such. BTW the drug companies want to encourage people to confuse a cold with the flu, so that more will buy their latest remedy. Relenza was the last one I heard of.
